What I do

I work with firms whose software has to survive contact with the people using it: mining, rail, logistics, engineering, heavy industry. Places where a failed deployment stops a train or a processing plant, not just a sprint.

That work takes two shapes. Inside a business, as the person accountable for the technology function: strategy, teams, delivery, and the vendor relationships that sit around them. Or from outside, through Simbiotic, on a small number of consulting engagements at a time.

Background

Simbiotic started in 2008 as a product company. We built a rail and yard optimisation platform that ran over live locomotive telemetry and train control data, deployed it on customer sites in remote mining operations, and supported it in production until it was acquired in 2016.

Since then it has operated as a consultancy, alongside in-house leadership roles. The through-line is the same: industrial environments, real operators, and software that has to hold up when the people using it are under pressure.
